A SWEET HALF-CENTURY

Founded in the Seventies, Torronalba has been producing sweet delights for over 50 years. Their products proved so popular that at the end of the Eighties, the company transferred to new 6500-square-metre premises, where they continue today to create their much-loved goodies.

A TASTE OF SICILY

For centuries almond trees have been part of the Sicilian landscape, with their delicate white flowers and beautiful fragrance announcing the arrival of spring in a glorious spectacle of nature.

SICILIAN ALMONDS

Sicily is considered the home of the world’s highest quality almonds and accounts for 80% of all Italian production. Among the most sought after is the Avola variety, picked between the end of July and beginning of September using predominantly manual methods. These are the almonds selected by Torronanalba and used in our Cinque Stelle cones.

CREATING THE PERFECT SICILIAN ALMOND SHARDS

Once harvested, the husks are removed and the almonds are left to dry in the hot Sicilian sun for 3-5 days. They are then transported to the Torronalba premises where they are shelled, sorted and peeled, before the delicate grinding process takes place, ensuring the perfect granules are obtained, an art that seeks to hit the ideal balance of flavour, aroma and consistency.

A PROTECTED PRODUCT

In recognition of the importance of protecting Sicily’s almonds, a body known as the Coordinamento Regionale was formed in 2010, made up of companies involved in producing and processing this precious bounty of the island. This was an initiative conceived by the Almond Consortiums of both Avola and Agrigento. Not only a sought-after ingredient in cakes and desserts, Avola almonds contribute to a healthy diet as they are rich in unsaturated fatty acids, polyphenols, Vitamin E, magnesium, calcium and proteins. They are also a natural anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and are packed with essential nutritional elements.
